BIOAXONE BioAxone Therapeutic Inc., established April 2000, is a privately owned Neuroscience company located in Montreal. Scientists have long known that certain proteins block the regeneration of injured axons in the CNS, including the brain, optic nerve and spinal cord. Dr. Lisa McKerracher, Associate Professor at Université de Montréal, has developed a new protein-based compound that overcomes the complex inhibitory barrier to axon regeneration. Dr. McKerracher has demonstrated, through her company BioAxone, that treated animals can grow long axons. BioAxone's lead candidate, Cerhrin is a novel recombinant protein which has been shown to stimulate regeneration in the central nervous system of adult mammals.
